If you’re using the Hostinger Website Builder and want to switch to WordPress, the process can be surprisingly smooth—especially when done correctly. In this guide, I’ll show you exactly how to take a full backup of your Hostinger Website Builder site and then safely migrate to WordPress without losing your domain.
Why Switch from Hostinger Website Builder to WordPress?
Hostinger’s Website Builder is a great starting point, especially with its drag-and-drop tools and AI features. However, WordPress offers far more flexibility, customization, and scalability. That’s why many creators and business owners decide to make the switch once they’re ready to expand.
Step 1: Log In and Duplicate Your Website
Start by logging into your Hostinger account. Go to the Websites section and locate the site you want to back up. Click the three-dot menu next to the website name, then choose “Duplicate Website.”
You’ll be asked to select a hosting plan for the duplicate. Choose your existing hosting plan and click “Select Plan.” After a few moments, Hostinger will create a duplicate version of your website.
⚠️ Note: This duplicated site won’t be live yet. You can preview it, but you’ll need to publish it manually if needed.
Step 2: Delete the Original Site
Now it’s time to release your domain so it can be used for your new WordPress website. Head back to the website list, click the three-dot menu again, and choose “Delete.”
Confirm the action by checking the acknowledgment box and clicking “Delete.” This step can take a few minutes.
Step 3: Install WordPress on Hostinger
Once the original builder site is deleted, click “Add Website” and select WordPress. Choose your site’s language, enter your email and password, and click Next.
You’ll be offered two setup methods—AI-assisted or pre-built themes—but for full control, choose “Create Blank Website.” Then enter your domain name and select your desired server location (choose one close to your target audience).
Click “Install WordPress” and wait for installation to finish.
Step 4: Visit and Log In to Your WordPress Site
After installation, your WordPress website will be available with a temporary domain. You can access the site using your domain name now that it’s been released. To make changes or install plugins/themes, go to your WordPress dashboard using your admin credentials.
