If you’ve built a website using Hostinger Website Builder, one of the first things you should do after going live is connect your site to Google Search Console. This will help Google discover, index, and rank your website in search results. In this post, I’ll walk you through the exact steps to do that, including how to submit your sitemap.
Step 1: Access Google Search Console
Go to Google Search Console and click “Start Now.”
Instead of using the domain property option, choose URL prefix and paste your full website URL starting with https://
.
Step 2: Verify Website Ownership
Google will ask you to verify ownership. Since Hostinger Website Builder doesn’t support uploading an HTML file, choose the HTML tag option. Copy the provided <meta>
tag.
Now, go to your Hostinger dashboard:
- Select your site
- Click Edit Website
- Click the three dots > Integrations > Custom Code
- Paste the HTML tag code into the header section
- Save and update the website
Back in Google Search Console, click Verify. Wait a minute or two, then confirm ownership.
Step 3: Submit Your Sitemap
Now that your site is verified, it’s time to submit your sitemap:
- Go to the Sitemaps section
- Enter:
sitemap.xml
and click Submit
Google will now periodically scan your sitemap for changes. This is crucial for SEO as it allows new pages to be indexed faster.
You can also visit your sitemap directly by going to https://yourwebsite.com/sitemap.xml
— you’ll see all the pages that have been indexed, including blog posts, terms pages, contact forms, and more.
Final Thoughts
Adding your Hostinger website to Google Search Console and submitting your sitemap is a quick but powerful step in optimizing your online presence. It ensures Google knows about your site and can rank your pages accordingly.
