Creating and managing a website is a continuous process, and sometimes you need to revert changes, undo errors, or simply keep a copy of your work. If you’re using Hostinger Website Builder, you’re in luck—this platform offers both automated and manual backup options that are easy to use. In this post, I’ll guide you through the entire process of backing up and restoring your website on Hostinger.
Understanding Hostinger’s Automatic Backup System
When you first hit “Go Live” on your website, Hostinger automatically creates your first backup. From that moment on, every time you click “Update Website,” a new backup is stored. These backups are kept for 30 days, giving you the flexibility to revert your site to any recent version.
You can find all your backups by hovering over the “Save” button and clicking Manage Backups. There, you’ll see a list of available restore points, each tied to a specific timestamp. You can preview any of these backups before restoring them to ensure they match your needs.
How to Restore a Website Backup
- Log into your Hostinger account.
- Go to “Websites” and click Edit Website next to the site you want to restore.
- Hover over “Save” and select Manage Backups.
- Choose the backup you want to restore.
- Click “Restore Backup” and confirm.
- Click “Update Website” to make the restored version live.
This process helps you recover from changes you didn’t mean to make or return to a more stable version of your site.
Previewing Differences Between Backups
One of the most useful features is the ability to preview changes between backups. For example, if you altered your site’s navigation menu, switching between backups will show you how those changes appeared over time.
This is especially helpful if you use Hostinger’s AI tools or frequently test different layouts and content updates.
Manual Website Duplication for Offline Backup
In addition to automated backups, Hostinger also allows you to manually duplicate your website:
- From the Hostinger dashboard, go to Websites.
- Click the three-dot menu next to your site and choose Duplicate Website.
- Select a hosting plan to assign the duplicate.
- Hostinger creates a copy with a temporary domain. You can edit or publish it as needed.
This duplicated version serves as a manual backup and can be customized or restored at any time.
Why Backups Matter
Website backups are crucial for:
- Reverting unintended changes
- Restoring deleted content
- Testing without risk
- Migrating or replicating site versions
With Hostinger’s tools, you can manage all of this with just a few clicks.
